Your Email Provider May Be Costing You Job Opportunities

Does your email address hark back to the days of the Internet’s infancy? It does if you’re using AOL, Hotmail, or Yahoo.

Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with those email providers. They provide email service the same as many other providers.

However, when you’re job searching how employers perceive you is vital. Especially, if your career field requires you to be tech savvy, you need a more ‘modern’ email provider. While Gmail is good, if the position you’re after requires that you be really up-to-date and tech savvy, consider getting a domain name.

If money is tight there are ways you can do this for free, including the hosting of the site you create. For tech jobs, it’s important that employers view you as someone that stays on top of the latest trends in the world of technology. Me@myname.com can give that tech savvy appearance a boost.

Just remember that if you have a website, employers may decide to view it and therefore you should follow through by making sure your site is professional in appearance. It should have your résumé and other items relevant to your employability. If you’re in a career that lends itself to showing samples of your work, such as photography, then some of your best pictures should be available for viewing on your website. If you’re in a technical field and you write a blog answering technical questions for people then there should be a link to your blog.

Showing genuine appreciation for others is key to fostering great relationships

I recently watched an interesting news feature on the late Dale Carnegie. In all honesty, I had not thought of his bestseller, “How to Win Friends and Influence People,” in years. It was a good reminder.

We often forget the importance of expressing genuine appreciation for others on a regular basis. This is something Carnegie stressed.

Everyone is so busy these days and how often do we think to ourselves, “Grow up!” when we hear someone carp and complain about something? Perhaps, they are just indirectly expressing they feel what they do doesn’t really matter much to others.

So, I will try to make a better effort to show my sincere appreciation for those in every aspect of my life. How about you? Check out this article for tips on how to become more effective at this. Oh, and thanks for taking time to read my blog post today. I truly appreciate it!

Allow yourself to allow!

“No, can’t do that because I still have to work on a project, do the laundry and get organized for next week’s crazy schedule.” How often do we say or hear something similar these days?

The insane pace we maintain to keep the American dream alive certainly takes its toll. I know I find I do not give myself a break or take enough time to unwind often because I don’t allow myself to “deserve” it. Sound familiar?

Here is a link to an interesting article on this subject:

Valentine’s Day on a budget

By Lori McMullin, APR, Director of Business Operations & Communications

As the nation slowly digs out of its economic slump, there are so many of us who are making every penny count. This makes it sometimes difficult to remember life is short and we need to take those treasured moments in time to let our loved ones know how much they truly mean to us.

Next week presents one of those moments – Valentine’s Day. Whether your special someone is a friend, family member, pet or sweetheart, don’t let the opportunity pass you by due to lack of funds.

I found an article with some interesting, heartfelt ideas. I do, however, draw the line at making my husband heart-shaped sandwiches! Not gonna happen in this lifetime!
