So, you hate the new job you finally landed? How to buck up and survive.

Whew! A sigh of relief. After long months of being unemployed, you finally landed a good job related to your experience!

Then, you start your job and it’s not what you thought it was going to be. What now?

Although I am a firm believer in life balance and the pursuit of happiness, I am not an advocate of quitting a new job unless it is absolutely necessary. First, face the fact your new job will be different from what you are used to – it’s a new environment. Give it a chance – it may grow on you.

Second, you are the new kid on the block. Right or wrong, co-workers may “test” you. See it for what it is and use it as motivation to do your best for the organization.

Finally, it is always easier to get another job when you already have one. If all else fails, ride it out, resume your job search and network, network, network! Heck, network anyway! Even if the new job is the most fabulous thing to ever happen to you professionally, you should not rest on your laurels. You have to keep proverbial “skin in the game” at all times to build your own security. It’s your responsibility.
